Why I am Running

Meet The Candidate

Learn more about my story, what drives me, and why I am running to serve our community.

I am Emily Cole, and I am proud to serve as President of Hilliard City Council. My path to public service has always been rooted in one simple belief: strong communities are built when people feel seen, supported, and connected. I am currently serving a term that runs through December 31, 2027, and I will be on the ballot in the 2027 primary for reelection.

I was raised with a deep appreciation for hard work, service, and looking out for others. Those values shaped who I am today and continue to guide how I lead. My career has focused on improving the health and well-being of communities across Ohio, from advancing health equity at the Health Policy Institute of Ohio to working with the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center to strengthen the key drivers of community health. I have also partnered with community health centers to help bring critical resources to families who need them most.

In 2021, I co-founded Ohio Families Unite for Political Action and Change after seeing firsthand the need to uplift families impacted by police violence. That work continues to shape my commitment to building communities where every person is valued and every family has the opportunity to thrive.

My decision to run for office came from a desire to serve my own community in a more direct way. Hilliard is where my husband, Wade, and I chose to build our life and raise our two children, August and Levi. Like so many families, we care deeply about safe neighborhoods, strong schools, and opportunities for our kids to grow and succeed. I wanted to be part of the work to protect and strengthen those things.

As a member of City Council and now as Council President, I have focused on supporting thoughtful growth, strengthening neighborhoods, and improving quality of life for residents. I believe in listening first, working collaboratively, and making decisions that reflect the values of our community.

Outside of my work, you’ll often find me volunteering with Cub Scouts Pack 672, supporting Hilliard Pride, spending time at Avery Elementary School, or connecting with neighbors around town. I’m also a member of Hilliard United Methodist Church. These experiences keep me grounded and connected to the people I serve.

I hold a master’s degree in public administration from The Ohio State University and undergraduate degrees in economics and political science from Shepherd University. More importantly, I bring a commitment to service, a willingness to listen, and a focus on getting things done.

I love Hilliard, and I am grateful every day for the opportunity to serve this community. I am running for reelection in 2027 because I believe in what we can accomplish together, and I am committed to continuing the work of building a city where everyone feels they belong and has the opportunity to thrive.
